Cindy was here on the weekend and made some great dishes for us to eat this coming week. I thought a meatloaf sandwich might be good and so today I made hoagie buns for the first time. I saw a couple of recipes online but decided to take a little from each and add some of my own ingredients. They turned out pretty good and taste even better.
HOAGIE BUNS
1 1/4 Cups Warm Water
3 Tbsp. Dry Active Yeast
1/4 Cup Sugar
1 Egg
3 1/2 Cups Whole Wheat Flour
2 Tbsp. Soft Butter
1 tsp. Kosher Salt
2 Tbsp. Dried Basil
Mix yeast in warm water (110 degrees). Add the rest of the ingredients and let rise for about an hour or double in size. Punch down and knead for about 10 minutes. Shape into either 12 buns or 6 hoagies and put on buttered cookie sheet about 2 inches apart. Preheat oven to 170 degrees and let dough rise in the oven for 35 minutes. Heat oven to 350 degrees and bake for about 10 minutes.
We ate one while they were still warm and loved them.
Looks good :) Hope I get to try your home made hoagies someday.
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to trying them out sometime.
