Saturday morning and I have been working away on my first doll quilt. I finished the top and put it together with the bottom and the batting. I am ready to start quilting. It should seem like a breeze after working on the big one for so long.

Big News. I am getting my new sewing machine on Memorial Day weekend. Fran is bringing it from the quilt show that she went to. She bought one for each of us. We are lucky dogs. I think I will take my old one to Texas unless I can find someone who wants it.

It is darn cold here. My hands are like ice cubes. There is a chance for a frost tonight. We have put all potted flowers inside the potting shed and will go put Joyce and Dick's in their garage later. They left for Ankeny and forgot to do it.

I can hardly believe that it is Memorial Day weekend next week. I will be planning menus soon. :)

More wonderful mothers

My Mom away from Mom was Luella Vivian Buck.(aka Lulabelle) She was born April 5, 1917 and died in 1996. She gave birth and raised my dear husband, Ronnie.
I have so many things to say about her. She was warm, loving and a very dear friend. She was also one of the best cooks that I ever met.

I still have a letter that she wrote to me to tell me that she had always wanted a daughter and she felt that I was that to her. She brought lots of love into my life.

One of the things that I remember most about Luella is the Christmas baking. We would get together for a whole day and make every kind of candy and cookie that you could think of. We would laugh because our clothes would be covered with flour, cocoa and every other ingredient that we used. We had so much fun just talking about our husbands and gossiping about relatives. I still miss those days.

What a grand lady. I will miss her until we see each other again.

Mary's Retirement

Mary has given Target her date for retirement, so I thought I should show you how she has been practicing for those "leisurely days".

I will let her give you all the details about dates and details in the Comments, below.

Mother's Day Week

Some really fantastic mother's have passed through the generations before me and a couple of really good ones are in process. Mother's day made them all so vivid in my mind and I decided that it might be fun to put a note or two about each of them. I got the idea from D'Lynn on Easter when she had each of the grandparents share a childhood memory.

What better place to start then with Margaret Delia Reynolds Seiler. She was born on March 14,1924. She died in September 1997. She was unselfish, honest, loving and a bit quiet as I was growing up. She was also strict and the disciplinarian in the family. I will never forget the time that I skipped school/weekday Mass with my friends and went to Kennedy Lake and slid down the spillway in my pantaloons. When I got home she was waiting and the first words out of her mouth were "where in the h--- have you been". I immediately burst into tears and spilled my guts. It seems that the superintendent, Msgr. Jerry Kelly, had called his friends, Vince and Margaret, and gave them the scoop. My friends were so mad that I so easily gave up my story. Never could help it, I could not lie to her.
She lived the last year of her life with us and became like a child who needed us so bad. I am grateful to have been able to pay her back for a few of the things that she did for me. Miss you MaMa.

Oh my goodness, I was certainly going to type something everyday. The best laid plans.
Today I went to work and after my day was through I gave my retirement date to Target. My last day of work will be June 19 and my retirement date is set for July 24. My first retirement check will arrive on August 1.

We had a wonderful weekend. We spent Friday in West Des Moines and watched the Carlson girls for the afternoon. The evening was spent eating out at On the Border and then a nice visit.

On Saturday, we went to Gladstone to spend Fran's birthday with her. Cindy and Katie went with us and Meghan and Peter were there. Of course, we got some shopping in and I found some quilting material at JoAnn's. I spied a sewing machine that Fran and I both loved. It looks like it might come into my life. :) Quilting and more quilting in my retirement years. All of my doll quilts are cut out and tonight I began to sew them together.

We had a nice trip home and now we will have to get back into the routine.
